Syzan joined Guy Carpenter in May 2007 following over 15 years in insurance and risk management consulting. Syzan is a strategic advisor to risk-bearing entities ranging from global multinational insurers and public sector entities to regional specialty, non-profit and affinity carriers in all lines of business.

Syzan leads Guy Carpenter’s Public Sector Specialty Practice in Canada and has been engrained in discussions with all levels of government to address the widening gap between insured and uninsured risk and the burden placed on taxpayers to close that gap. Syzan has had a longstanding voice and role in the Federal government’s initiative on the financing of flood risk as a member of the Whole of Society Working Group during 2018-2021 and in facilitating discussions alongside government and industry at the first Federal Ministerial Roundtable in 2017. Syzan has also been actively working with climate risk and natural catastrophe-exposed community groups introducing the concept of Community Based Catastrophe Insurance as a worthy option where traditional insurance is not available.

Syzan holds her Fellowship with the Insurance Institute of Canada and two internationally recognized designations of Certified Risk Manager and Registered Professional Liability Underwriter.
