Sean Strang

Director of Recovery and Mitigation
City of Merritt

Sean Strang is a seasoned Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and brings a wealth of experience in operational and project management across both private industry and government sectors. Sean has played pivotal roles in numerous large capital projects in western Canada, concentrating on building relationships at all project stages, and ensuring communication flows well from vision to strategy to execution.

Driven by a deep love for the outdoors and drawn by the allure of the mountains, Sean and his family moved from Alberta to BC. An avid hiking and outdoor family, Sean and his wife are dedicated to instilling an active lifestyle in their children, and showing the benefit of welcoming challenges in personal and professional life.

Currently Sean leads the Flood Mitigation team in Merritt BC, a team created specifically in response to the historic 2021 Atmospheric River Event. This demanding role involves overseeing several large capital projects, securing funding, and devising innovative disaster mitigation strategies. Sean is also dedicated to building lasting relationships within the Indigenous community, while ensuring transparent Project communication of progress and challenges to the community, City Council, City staff, and contractors.
