Sarah Sargent

Vice-President – Risk Reduction & Resilience Programs
Canadian Red Cross (CRC)

Sarah Sargent has been with the Canadian Red Cross (CRC) since 2011.  As Vice President of Risk Reduction & Resilience Programs, Sarah  leads domestic actions to address risk related to disasters, crisis, and climate change.  This work recognizes that we must understand the causal factors of risks, including inequity, to inform accessible mitigation, prevention, and adaptation actions. This elevates an inclusive resilience approach across all Emergency Management (EM) phases. Her personal commitment and professional focus reflect her career in leading policy change and adaptive resilience programs supporting diverse populations, both domestically and internationally.  She is an ally in CRC’s strategic approach to working with Indigenous communities as part of the organization’s commitment to reconciliation.

Ms. Sargent has a BA in Education and History and an MA in Applied Educational Leadership and Management from the University of London – Institute of Education.  During her career Sarah has led policy change initiatives to strengthen child protection systems in Uganda and Yemen, education reform including the integration of Life Skills Education in the Sudan and the restructuring of Sri Lanka’s guidance program to support the psychosocial well-being of students and teachers affected by the Asia Tsunami.
