Michelle Yang is a PhD Candidate at the Interdisciplinary School of Health Sciences, University of Ottawa, and a Vanier Scholar. She has produced research on trauma, disaster preparedness, and resilience; currently, her research program is largely focused on risk communication and inclusive strategies in disaster preparedness, management, and recovery. Moreover, she has investigated performance measurement for Public Health Emergency Preparedness (PHEP), which will inform capacity development within public health agencies in Canada. In her research, she has engaged with Indigenous peoples, older adults, and people with disability in collaborative projects to better understand the systemic basis of adverse disaster consequences that disproportionately affect high-risk communities. Most recently, this includes evaluations of Service Ontario services for people with vision impairment during the COVID-19 pandemic, and exploration of the pandemic experiences and adaptive capacity of people with mobility disability.
