Director, Technical & Emergency Services
Kee Tas Kee Now Tribal Council

Grew up in southern Alberta, around the Calgary area, and moved to Northern Alberta in 1992, and have lived in Loon Lake (Loon River First Nation) since then. He has a wife and family who are all Kee Tas Kee Now members. I started my career from the bottom as a custodian in the local school and was asked to ne maintenance man on the new school. This is where I obtained my Class A Journeyman Gasfitter license and moved into Public Works & Infrastructure which I have been working for over 30 years. I have over 20 years of Fire Rescue experience starting my role in the fire service in 2001 and I am currently still the Fire Chief for Loon River First Nation and over 14 years experience in disaster management as a Director of Emergency Management. My distinct set of experiences have allowed me to contribute to all aspects of EM. I joined the Kee Tas Kee Now Tribal Council (KTC) in 2021 as the new Director, Technical & Emergency Services. KTC, serves the member Nation’s of Whitefish Lake First Nation, Woodland Cree First Nation, Lubicon Lake Band, Peerless Trout First Nation and Loon River First Nation. My new role has allowed me to support the 5-member Nations in Emergency Management and First Response and is a first for Tribal Councils in the region to have this type of program. I have been involved in some of the major disasters that have affected Northern Alberta since 2010, including: The Slave Lake fires – where he led the evacuation of Loon River First Nation and supported the evacuation of the Red Earth Creek community and the MacMillan Complex fire where his role placed him as Incident Commander for the Trout Lake site and led the two evacuations of the Trout Lake community. I was also heavily involved in the spring fires of 2023 where I assisted with 4 evacuations and deployed First Nation WUI firefighters to Fox Lake, Sturgeon and Hay River in NWT.  I have a passion for my role in serving the communities and sharing my extensive knowledge of rural Northern Alberta disaster situations and sincerely enjoy educating communities and people in Disaster Management and Emergency Response. My other role is to support all five Nations with their Capital & Infrastructure projects from planning to construction.  A sample of some of my other roles that help me gain valuable experience and sharing my knowledge include:

  • Serve on NAIT’s Disaster & Emergency Management Program Public Advisory Committee
  • Board Member for the First Nations’ Technical Services Advisory Group
  • Consult for Sea Hawk Fire Service in assisting performing Fire Department Evaluations
  • HCoM advisory committee
